The building dates from the 14th century, when it was raised on the site of an earlier 6th-century construction. It stands inside a walled enclosure, and is built of stone blocks and masonry. Various styles can be seen in the construction of the church, which has Romanesque columns in the central nave. However, the nave is in the Gothic style, as is the bell tower, while the façade and the steps are Baroque. On the inside there is a triple apse, and a main altar with a magnificent 16th century altarpiece featuring illustrations of saints associated to the region.
