Palafrugell is a town and municipality of the Baix Emporda. With a registered population of approximately 23,000 inhabitants is the most populated municipality of the region. The municipal term limits with those of Mont-ras, Forallac, Torrent, Begur and Regencós. The town of Palafrugell is the center of the town, where there are also rural Santa Margarita and Ermedàs, Llofriu, Calella, Llafranc, Tamariu and Water Xelida.
It has a gastronomic tradition and a rich culture personified the writer Josep Pla. One of the main sources of wealth was the cork industry. This industry had been focused largely on the export of cork worldwide.
